1. Get your customers to trust you and your products first.
Just building your opt-in list will not in itself make you an expert and a believable seller. You should write many articles first before you start selling to any opt-in list. Write about the topic you personally know about. Even on you have, for example, started useing on your own web site. Try to sign up in and post in related forums first to gain knowledge about your customers, about their wants and needs and then target those wants and needs.
Do a search on Google for forums related to your product or service. Then join some of those forums, read the discussions, and post a few questions there. Then slowly proceed to provide expert advice and recommendations. When you feel people begin to trust you, you will be able to start or add to your own opt-in list. You can build a base as well with other forum users. You can ask them to join your list. Friends are always good customers. Put up a link to your site in your signature on the forums and in your email so that everyone can see what you’re business is all about.
The certain truth is you will only begin to make money from selling when consumers and subscribers believe and trust in you. They want a product or service that could be a good exchange for their money. People are not going to buy something based on your recommendation if they don’t know you.
2. Make friends with other opt-in list users.
This is really helpful, especially if you befriend someone who is already successfully selling to an opt-in list. These are people who have the experience in this kind of venture and experience is still the best teacher. While there are many articles available for you on the internet to use and learn from, there is nothing like getting a first hand account from someone you trust.

While different situations occur for different people, the general concept can still be very helpful. There are many things to avoid and these people will be able to tell you which ones.
3. Find a product or service that people want and need.
Although a particular product or service may not be your personal forte, if you provide a service and product that you have researched and learned about well, you can still sell it if there is sufficient demand. Invest your time, effort and money in something you are sure you can sell, as well as one the buyers or subscribers in your opt-in list can use.
While it is true that it is best to sell something that you have an interest in, there may not be many people who have the same interest as you So think about it twice if you decide to sell something that is not in demand, popular or profitable. Do your research well and you will see the profits come in.
Note: Building a profitable opt-in list does not just happen overnight. There is a lot of preparations and effort to be made.
