How’s that viral report coming along? I’m sure you’ve brainstormed a topic or two by now and maybe even started writing your report. Keep up the good work!

Today, we’re going to talk about mailing lists and how they can drive traffic to your website. I know that might sound odd, especially if you don’t have a list yet. But, I’m not talking about your own list. Let me explain.

Do you have partners, helpers, fellow online business owner friends, etc. that would be willing to promote your site to their readers? If so, use them to spread the word. You can also take the time to research other websites that target your type of customer.

Don’t be shy! However, don’t just email them and say “Hey can you promote my site?” You have to give them a reason to promote you.

First, make sure their readers are those who would benefit from your site. If you’ve got a site selling car parts, then asking a virtual assistant to promote your site to their audience isn’t going to cut it.
Once you’ve found like minded businesses that fit well with what you have to offer, consider bartering something for their time. Do you provide a service on the side? Why not offer them a free hour of your time in exchange for a mention in their newsletter or on their blog? Think of how you can give them something worth while in return for promoting your site.

Next, it’s time to present the offer to them. Again, don’t just shoot them an email requesting promotion. Approach the person with THEIR best interest in mind and highlight how it will benefit them, not you. Remember to make it a win-win situation for all involved and you’ll do great.

Glad you decided to stick around for more of the Traffic Boost course because we’re just getting started with the REALLY good (and fun) traffic generation methods.

Today we’re going to talk about ONE of my favorite ways to generate traffic to my website – Small Reports. They are not my MOST favorite, but we’ll get to that one later, I promise. I think you’ll like today’s method just as much as I do.

Remember the PLR we talked about yesterday? PLR articles are a great shortcut to compiling a small report.

The first thing you need to do before we can even get to the actual small reports is to realize that as an online business owner, you have to give to get. That means there will be times that in order to get what you want for your business, you have to offer something for free. That’s what today’s lesson on small reports is all about.

Creating a freebie small report can actually serve more than one purpose in your business.  Today we’re going to talk about two of those ways:

  1. You can offer your free report to visitors in exchange for them signing up for your mailing list. (We’ll talk more about mailing lists tomorrow.)
  2. You can make the report customizable and allow those who receive it to re-brand it with their own affiliate links for the products you’ve recommended inside. If you want to get even more traffic from your reports, make them brandable.

First, you need to create a small report (we’re talking 7-15 pages in length) that centers on a topic of interest to your market. For instance, if your target is “moms”, you might create a free report about meal planning or even a cookbook with quick, inexpensive recipes.

Of course you’ll insert your own product recommendations with your own affiliate links into the report. Then, turn it into a PDF file.

If you don’t have a Word to PDF converter, here’s a free one you can use. http://www.openoffice.org/

Next you’ll need to make the PDF brandable so that those who purchase it can pass it on (be sure to let them know this in the report itself) to others and use their own affiliate links if they so choose.

Although you can find many PDF rebrandable programs online with a Google search, here is one that is completely different from most. It offers an opt-in form to every PDF document!


Now, the fun part! Start giving the report away! Sit back and watch your traffic numbers go up as people continue to pass your viral report all over the Internet.

If you’re still not sure how this whole branding and re-branding thing works, it’s ok! This concept is still new to many online business owners. The process is extremely easy.

Whether you make the report brandable or not, be sure to submit it to all of the free-ebook sites online, especially Scribd.com

Internet users and search engines both love “content”. The more quality information you can offer them, the better your chances of ranking well and being seen online.

PLR allows you to purchase articles and reports without writing them yourself or paying a ton of money to have someone else write it for you. This makes it easier and faster for you to add informative content to your website for others to find.

No, the articles are not 100% unique to you, but many smart marketers use PLR as a starting point – a rough draft if you will, to get ideas. How’s that link building going?

Don’t fret if you aren’t seeing results from your efforts right away…it takes time for the search engines to find you and all the links out there.

Today we’re going to pull out one of the articles you wrote back in “Day 1″ and use it to boost traffic in another, quicker way.

Once you have your article written and published, either in article directories or on your website (you did do both right?), you’ll want to send people to read it. A great way to do this is through social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, StumbleUpon, message boards, and others.

Here are the two hottest places to be right now:
Now social networking is not something you do half heartedly if you want to reap its benefits. You can’t just join Twitter and do nothing but post links to your own stuff and expect the traffic to soar.

You have to actually “be social” in your social networking. Imagine that! ;-) When you join these types of sites, you want to give your followers, friends, etc. a reason to actual pay attention to what you have to say.

Spend time getting to know people and chatting about some other non-business related stuff as well. Be friendly and informative first. Let them get to know you and they’ll be more receptive when you do give those links to visit.

A word of caution when it comes to networking sites:

They can easily be distractions and eat valuable business time. USE WISELY!

If you’re already a member of Twitter or forums that pertain to your website topic, head over and post a few links to your article. If you haven’t joined any groups like these yet, pick one or two and get started today. Remember give informative information and get to know people before just throwing your links out there.

Here’s a tip for you: The more people you have talking about you on these sites, the better it looks so showcase your knowledge through helpful information and they will start talking for you. Word of mouth marketing is one of the best forms of traffic generation.

By the way…if you’re a member of these networks, but don’t have time to post to them all or, like me, are easily distracted, consider hiring someone to do it for you.

Yesterday we discussed article marketing and how it can increase your traffic. Have you had a chance to brainstorm some article topics? Today, I want to talk about search engines and how getting others to link to your site can boost your traffic.

We all know when people go to the Internet the majority of them first go to their favorite search engine (Google, Yahoo, MSN), type in a few keywords and receive a list of sites that match.

These search engines rank websites on various things in order to decide which ones should be displayed to Internet users first. That is a whole course in its own, but today I want to focus on just one of the things they use to rank websites – the number of other websites that link to YOURS.

So, we certainly want as many quality sites as possible to link to our own websites and blogs. We do this by link-building.

Also known as back linking, link building is the process of getting other sites to link to your site.

Remember the article directories? The links you place in your resource box on your articles are considered back links once they are placed on another website.  That is why we recommend you check out the services we suggested. They’ll turn your article marketing into Article marketing on Steroids!

If you haven’t checked them out yet, I recommend you do so…
There is no reason why you couldn’t use both of the services if you really wanted to aggressively market your online business.

Search engines will rate pages within a site based on their popularity and what better way to determine popularity than for your pages to be listed on various other websites.

The other thing you want to try and do to increase your traffic is to provide quality information that people will find useful. This will get your site noticed and talked about, thus increasing the incoming links to your website. This is just one way of telling the Search Engines: “Hey I’m out here providing useful information!”

Here are just a few ways you can get quality, incoming links for your site.
  1. Article Marketing
  2. Guest Blogging on other people sites
  3. Linking to pages within your site from other pages
  4. Reciprocal links from other site owners

Article marketing is one of the easiest and quickest ways to get more people to your site, and get your name and expertise out there for other’s to see.

In the simplest of terms, article marketing is the process of writing articles and posting them to article directories on the web.

So, how does this generate traffic to your website?
  1. These articles are known as “free to reprint articles”.
  2. Your article will always include what is known as a “resource” or “bio box” at the end that tells a bit about you or your website. Within that resource box, you’ll include a link that will direct people to your site.
  3. When you submit articles to article directories, other website owners will pick them up and post them on their own websites without changes, resource box included. This is completely free advertising which generates traffic from various other sources besides just the article directory.
Here are just a few well known article directories you can submit your own articles to:
Today begin brainstorming some topics that would benefit those in your target market. Once you have a few topics, you can begin putting together informative, quality information in the form of articles to submit to the directories.

There are several ways to submit your articles to the article directories -
  1. By hand: YUCK!
  2. Paying someone to do it for you – which is expensive.
  3. Use a service. We recommend either of these:

Follow-up to The Tutorials for Increasing Your Affiliate Profits

I hope you all enjoyed the 9 posts about Affiliate Marketing and that they were helpful to you in increasing your profits.

The biggest problem we all face as internet marketers is lack of patience and endurance.  If you will make up your mind to persevere and not quit, you will be ahead of 90% of the people who try to make money online.  You should always strive to learn more.  Even if something SEEMS to be a “repeat” of something you learned in the past, every author has a little different take on a given subject.  So, who knows?  You might learn something you never even dreamed about before.

Today we’re going to talk about one tool that will absolutely make you stand out from the rest.

 
First, let’s talk about your “Thank You” pages. Whenever someone new signs up for your newsletter or purchases one of your personal products or services, they are probably redirected to a “Thank You” page on your site.

 
When they get there, what do they see? More than likely something similar to this:

“Thank you for signing up for the XYZ newsletter. You’ll be receiving an email shortly to confirm your subscription.”
 
In the meantime what is this person going to do while they are waiting to receive their confirmation email? Twiddle their thumbs in anticipation? Nah, probably not. They will more than likely head to another website and forget all about yours until they check their email later.

 
Instead of giving them time to think about something or someone else, why not give them something to occupy their time? How about a “Thank You” page that reads something like this:
 
“Thank you for signing up for the XYZ newsletter. You’ll be receiving an email shortly to confirm your subscription. While you wait, have a look at this: insert your affiliate link here!”
 
This is also a perfect place to put a free report.

 
You can also customize your error pages with the same type of message.

 
There’s nothing more annoying than landing on an error page and having to hit the back button to try and find the page you were searching for. As a matter of fact, many people get so frustrated with error pages that they close the window and never look back.

Instead of just seeing this:
 
“Error ### – We’re sorry but the page you are looking for isn’t here!”
 
Why not give them something like this:
 
“We’re sorry but the page you are looking for isn’t available at this time. Please accept our apologies and see if this might help you out instead: insert your affiliate link here!”
 
See how easy it is to make these changes! It’s not rocket science and you can go in and make the changes to these pages in literally seconds per page. So, head on over and get things rolling.

If you’ve taken the time to look at many sales pages for Internet marketing products, you’ll notice that almost all of them offer their buyers bonuses. Product owners realize the term “The More the Merrier” means a lot to buyers.

These bonus items are added to a product to add value to the product and help the buyer feel like they are getting more than their money’s worth when they purchase.

The same is true for your referrals. Give them a reason to buy through your link versus someone elses. Make it something of value that they can use.

There are a few ways you can do this, but one of the easiest, especially if you have no way of knowing who purchased from your referral is to have them forward a copy of their receipt to you via email.

Here are just a few ideas of incentives that go over well:

1. A reduced price on one of your own products.
2. One of your products for free.
3. If you’re a service provider offer X amount of hours of work.
4. Cash – nothing says “Thank You” like cold hard cash!

So, put your thinking cap on and get creative. Think about what you can offer someone who purchases using your affiliate link. Make it good because you won’t be the only one doing this. Many of the big dogs already do this, but it’s still not as many as you might think and besides what you have to offer just might appeal more than those other guys!
